My interpretation of the Balrog, Durin’s Bane from Lord of the Rings. I stuck a bit to the movie’s look, but made him a bit more bat like and more smoke than fire. Think Smaug is next. “You shall not pass!”

It's funny how no Balrog I have ever seen looks like the description in the book. :giggle:

Haha, yea the movie one was just very awesome, and I remember when I was researching on the literary one, it was somewhat vague and tons of people were fighting over whether or not it had wings.

While I still find all Balrogs awesome there are a lot of things in the movies I'm not cool with. :-/

Do you have any good books to recommend where I can read more about the literary Tolkien world and it's culture/creatures?

I guess that applies to every Tolkin book. ;-) Or are you talking about some more... condensed books?

Like, a book explaining everything about the worlds I guess, maybe with more descriptions on species or races too. I've heard about The Similarion but wasn't sure if that was just a prequel story or if it actually explained a lot more about everything.

I have heard the Simarilion is mostly background on Middleearth mythology.
History of Middleearthare mostly short stories about important people from about Melkor's war.
